La Crosse County is consistently in or near the Top 10 among all Wisconsin counties in different categories, like population or tourism spending.

Another area where the county comes close to the top is the number of felonies in a year.  As of December 30th, La Crosse County prosecutors had filed 991 felony cases for 2021.

If the county officially makes it to 1000 cases, that would be 5 years in a row.

La Crosse’s total is the 13th highest in Wisconsin for this year, just behind Fond du Lac County.  Eau Claire County is at number 8, and Marathon County, the Wausau area, is number 6 in felonies.  Milwaukee County tops the list.  It had 1000 felonies by mid-March of this year.

The county felony totals dropped in the last two years, in part because the pandemic reduced activity in the court system.

Milwaukee, Dane, and Brown are the only counties with 3000 or more felonies for 2021.
