How did a 10-month-old boy in La Crosse end up consuming heroin?

The child’s mother says a guest at her house was using heroin, and may have left some out where her baby could get at it.  But now, La Crosse County is charging that mother, Jessica Borger, with child neglect causing great bodily harm.

The 33-year-old Borger is also charged with bail jumping, for violating a court order to stay away from her child.

First responders were sent out on December 22nd, to answer a call about an infant choking, and they had to give the baby Narcan, the drug used to reverse an opioid overdose.   The child was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Borger made her first court appearance on Thursday. She has another court hearing later this month.
