Street excavation approved near new Kwik Trip site

Work crews won’t have to wait until spring to start preparations for a new Kwik Trip on Ward Avenue in La Crosse.

The city board of public works has approved plans for excavating streets in that area, beginning next week.

Stephanie Sward of the city engineer’s office says the early start is designed to avoid conflicts with a major road project coming up on  South Avenue, including the construction of three roundabouts. That’s scheduled to begin in March.

A company called Concrete Solutions will be doing underground water and sewer work for a few weeks.

The city engineer’s office is asking the company that when it finishes the road work, they fill the street back in with material that can withstand snowplows.
