As I See It
Only 51 days until Spring
Midwesterners really are a hearty sort. Of course, our mettle gets tested every year at this time as the winters seem to get longer. But we have almost made it to the end of January already, with about 17 inches of snow so far this season. And February is a short month, but then March gets us close to Spring. Until then, getting around in this slop will continue to be a bit tricky. That’s why we deserve a pat on the back for being able to keep it on the road as we have to drive on snow, slush and ice. We do it every day for months, depending on the conditions. Think some California transplant who has never seen snow could drive in this stuff without getting in an accident? No doubt they’d wonder how we do it so routinely. Our road crews deserve some praise for that. The city and county of La Crosse do a good job clearing our roads during the storm, then coming back to give that snow a good clip all the way to the curb. Often they are doing their work in the middle of the night, or when conditions are at their worst. We don’t know what the rest of our winter will bring, but we can take solace in knowing there are only 51 more days until the start of Spring!

Spring in 51 days? Spring gets here sometime around the end of April. And talking about snow, I thought that was a thing of the past as well as temperatures like 18 below. At least that’s what the ‘experts’ in the climate change/global warming community told us.
