Davis scores 11, Badgers struggle shooting in Rutgers loss

Johnny Davis had his second-lowest point total of the season, as the University of Wisconsin men’s basketball team lost to Rutgers 73-65.

The Scarlets Knights (15-9, 9-6) simply shot better than the Badgers — hitting 25 of 49 field goals (51%), 7 of 12 from beyond the arc and 16-for-18 from the free-throw line.

The Badgers (19-5, 10-4) hit just 4 of 19 3-pointers and 9 of 17 free throws.

Davis finished 5-for-11 from the field, but missed all three of his 3-pointers and was just 1 of 4 from the line. The La Crosse native did have eight rebounds, an assist, steal and four turnovers.

Two games ago was Davis’ worst game of the season with four points on 2-for-13 shooting in the 51-49 win over Penn State. Davis, who leads the nation in scoring against Top 25 teams, followed that Penn State game up, however, with a 25-point performance in helping Wisconsin beat No. 17 Michigan State 70-62.

He’s averaging 20.3 points, 8.3 rebounds a game this season.

Teammate Brad Davis was also horrible shooting against Rutgers, going 3-for-13 from the field, including 1 of 9 from deep.
