Milwaukee man gets life sentence for fatal shooting in Sparta

A life term in prison is the sentence for a Milwaukee man who killed a Sparta resident two years ago. 

Michael Hartmann was sentenced to life by a Monroe County judge Tuesday, for the 2020 shooting death of Anthony Koopman during a drug deal and robbery. 

Koopman allegedly was trying to buy drugs at his home in Sparta when Hartmann tried to rob him, and Hartmann shot Koopman as he attempted to run. 

Hartmann also was sentenced to prison terms for attempted robbery, delivering drugs, and felony possession of a weapon.  Those sentences will be consecutive to the life term. 

A second man accused in the murder is scheduled for trial in Monroe County court this spring.
