Ross bail set at $100K after charge of shooting at La Crosse police
A cash bond of $100,000 has been set for the La Crosse man accused of shooting at a police officer this week.
Curtis Ross II is being charged with reckless endangerment, drug possession, and felony possession of a weapon.
City police were trying to question the 33-year-old about a car theft early Tuesday morning, around 1:30 a.m., when he fired at an officer and ran.
Ross was captured while trying to hide near UW-L. Judge Scott Horne set bond for Ross on Wednesday.
Ross is suspected of stealing a woman’s car near downtown, and ditching it near campus. He was arrested after firing his gun at an officer who followed him. A search in the area turned up the gun, a gold necklace, and bags of heroin and cocaine.
One officer saw Ross extend his arm, and then saw a muzzle flash and heard a shot. The officer was not hurt.
Ross reportedly was hiding behind or under a car when he was arrested. Besides having the gun, Ross was caught with the keys to a stolen car.
Ross has failed to appear in other recent cases.
