A warrant has been isused in regards to an armed robbery two months ago at a gas station on La Crosse’s south side.

Abston Jr.

A Madison man has been charged for the robbery that happened at the Citgo on State Road back on Jan. 16, where about $1,400 was stolen. Two men were involved in the robbery, both armed.

One of them, Daniel Abston, Jr., is currently in the Dane County jail. The 20-year-old faces charges for:

  • Armed robbery
  • Possession of a firearm by a felon
  • 2nd degree reckless endangering safety
  • Party to a crime.

Abston has been in Dane County custody since Jan. 23 on unrelated charges. He is being charged in La Crosse County as a repeater for all the above offenses.

Police have been able to make connections in crimes committed in both areas, including a stolen white Hyundai Santa Fe that was used in a drive-by shooting that was also at the scene of the Citgo robbery.

They also pinned Abston’s cellphone, which was confiscated, to the Citgo during the robbery.

Other info obtained from the cellphone also point to his being involved, including a screenshot of a Faecbook post where police had asked for help in the Citgo robbery.

As the investigation continues, the La Crosse Police encourage anyone with information regarding the armed robbery to contact Investigator Andrew Rosenow at 608-789-7218.

Otherwise, anonymous info can be left with the La Crosse Area Crime Stoppers at 608-784-TIPS or online here.
