As I See It

Wisconsin legislators give themselves the rest of the year off

If you’re like most working people, you probably have to go to work today. And tomorrow, and unless you take a vacation day, the day after as well. Not so for those who promise us they will fight for us, and make things better for us, and that’s why we should vote for them. The ones whose salaries we pay. Members of the Wisconsin Assembly and Senate concluded their 2021-2022 legislative session this week. Yes, their work is done, for the year. They are officially on vacation, ready to hit the campaign trail to beat us over the head with more false promises. It isn’t like they’ve solved all of Wisconsin’s problems. Quite the opposite. They simply refused to act, as they did when taking up debate over Governor Evers’ plan to send rebate checks to each Wisconsinite because of the huge budget surplus. Except there was no debate. The chambers opened the meeting as the law requires, then closed it with no vote and no debate. No discussion. Lawmakers could have come up with their own plan and debate which is better. Instead, they simply punted, as they did with issues such as fixing our roads or legalizing cannabis. They simply refused to even hold hearings on such issues. Maybe its ok our state representatives are taking the rest of the year off. They don’t get much done when they are working anyway.

You hit the nail on the head, it’s ridiculous. Alot of people don’t pay attention or are too busy with their own lives to care. But they should this is why no ones being represented or heard. Time for some change in the system.

This is also what happens when gerrymandering is used to protect and re-elect the legislators who draw the gerrymandered districts. They don’t go to Madison to solve problems or help people; they go to block the other party from accomplishing anything and to enhance their own power.

Why is this an okay policy? It’s no wonder our state cannot get anything done. When they are there they are doing nothing and then.take 9 months off to campaign about how hard they are going to work for us! SERIOUSLY
