Eagle sculpture may return to La Crosse’s Riverside Park in a few weeks
The Eagle sculpture could be back on La Crosse’s riverfront soon.
Jim Flottmeyer from the city park department tells the La Crosse arts board that the Elmer Petersen artwork, being restored by craftsman Al Schultz, is just about finished.
Both the bird and its tree trunk pedestal had become corroded. They may return to Riverside Park in late spring or early summer.
The Eagle was first put on display in 1987. It was removed from the park in September of 2020 for the restoration project, shortly after the Hiawatha Indian statue was permanently taken out of the same city park.
The price tag for restoration was estimated at $150,000.
