A fire caused heavy damage to a garage and a nearby camper in La Crosse late Sunday morning.

Though the fire was caused by an apparent accident in the detached garage, one of the two people in the house had to be taken by ambulance to the hospital for minor injuries.

The fire on the 1600 block of Gillette Street was reported just before 11:30 a.m. The La Crosse Fire Department said it arrived just three minutes after the call came in.

Flames were put out before spreading to the main house.

Investigators ruled the fire an accident caused by welding sparks igniting gasoline.
