City departments offer help to “Beautify La Crosse”

Published

on

As planting season begins for many people, the city of La Crosse is reaching out to help folks improve the looks of public areas.  The program has a simple enough name: Beautify La Crosse.

Leah Miller of the city park department says the idea is to make it easier to put plants and flowers at sites such as traffic circles, boulevards, and medians, with assistance from different offices at City Hall.

The park department is taking applications on-line.  A couple of rules: plants must be under two-and-a-half feet tall, and at least half of the new plantings must be native species in the area.

Volunteers can apply on-line with the park department at www.cityoflacrosse.org/parks, and they can help direct you to the experts who can help arrange the planting.

Why does the city of La Crosse hire a company from out of town to do maintenance on the shrubs and plants on the traffic circle at the corner of 7th and Cass Street and I assume other intersections as well. Wouldn’t it be cheaper for the city to do it themselves?
