Decorah area man reportedly admits to killing his father, reported missing last week

A $1 million cash bond has been set in Iowa for a Decorah man who has admitted to police that he shot and killed his father, who has been missing since last week. 

Aaron Whittle is being charged with 1st degree murder in Winneshiek County, Iowa, in the death of 74-year-old Lawrence Paul Whittle. 

According to police, the younger Whittle, who’s 43, committed the murder on Thursday at the family home in Decorah, and a search for Lawrence Whittle was launched on Friday near a public park.  Aaron Whittle was arrested early Monday, and appeared in Winneshiek County court later in the day.

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area. He regularly covers local courts and city and county government. Brad produces the features "Yesterday in La Crosse" and "What's Buried on Brad's Desk." He also writes the website "Triviazoids," which finds odd connections between events that happen on a certain date, and he writes and performs with the local comedy group Heart of La Crosse. Brad been featured on several national TV programs because of his memory skills.
