Murder suspect Freeman being held in La Crosse jail on $500K bond
A cash bond of $500,000 has been set by a La Crosse County judge for murder suspect Karvel Freeman.
Prosecutors believe Freeman told a second man to shoot victim Ernest Knox back in January, because of perceived incidents of disrespect. The alleged shooter, Nelson Brown, has not been arrested yet.
Judge Ramona Gonzalez set April 5 as the next court hearing for Freeman, a Tennessee resident.
Freeman was living in Madison at the time Knox was killed. He reportedly moved back home to Tennessee, where he was captured earlier this month.
His defense attorney said in court Monday Freeman learned about the warrant for his arrest, and was in the process of turning himself in when he was arrested in Murfreesboro, Tenn.
Investigators believe Freeman became angry at Knox over an incident at a birthday party. Knox was found dead on Rose Street early on Jan. 8.
