As I See It
Will anything ever be built at Foxconn?
Five years have passed, and it is becoming less and less clear what will become of Foxconn? You know, the supposed 8th wonder of the world? They have built some buildings, but few people are working there, and nothing is being produced. We’ve heard lots of promises, all of which have fallen short. Flat screens, microchips, electric cars. The state made a pitch to Intel to use the Foxconn facility to build the country’s largest microchip manufacturing plant in the U.S. Instead, Intel worked a deal with Ohio, while Foxconn remains empty. It seems Foxconn had a chance to finally drum up some business, but whiffed. Oshkosh Defense, a Wisconsin company, landed a huge government contract to build a new fleet of vehicles for the U.S. Postal Service. According to reports, Oshkosh would be hiring lots of people, at good wages, to build the new fleet of postal vehicles. But according to reports, Oshkosh was rebuffed when the company reached out to Foxconn about renting their space, since it is sitting empty. So Oshkosh will take its business to South Carolina. Does Foxconn really want anything built at their site? It seems the company is turning its back on Wisconsin and turning away Wisconsin jobs, rather than bringing us the 8th wonder of the world.

All those people’s homes and farms gone, for nothing. This is what you get when you put a shaky business deal before people, farms and wildlife
