Judge Gonzalez — La Crosse’s first female judge — stepping down this summer
La Crosse County Judge Ramona Gonzalez is retiring this summer, after 27 years on the bench.
The governor’s office is seeking candidates for the Branch 1 vacancy, reporting that Gonzalez will resign as of July 1.
Gonzalez, a native of the Dominican Republic, was La Crosse County’s first female judge. She came to La Crosse in 1981 to practice law and was first elected as a county judge in 1995, after the retirement of Judge Peter Pappas.
Gonzalez is three years into her latest six-year term. Whoever is appointed to the post would run for a full term in April of 2023.

It’s about time this liberal judge steps down , after letting a whole bunch of crack dealing gun toating criminals out on low bail ,only to end up back in court four days later , Great work Romona !!!!!

I already feel like our community is safer. Good riddance Gonzalez. The best thing you could’ve done for our community was step down. Sounds like it was forced, too. So just a fuck you, Gonzalez.
