Not guilty plea from La Crosse man heard firing gun on school property

A La Crosse man pleaded not guilty Wednesday to charges of firing shots into the air at different areas around the city.

Deantre Bell was arrested after early-morning gunfire late in March around the Viterbo University campus and Lincoln Middle School. Nobody was hurt by the gunshots.

The 21-year-old is charged with five counts, including firing a gun in a school zone and carrying a concealed weapon into downtown bars.

He was given a signature bond, and is ordered not to have firearms, and to stay away from the Viterbo area.

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area. He regularly covers local courts and city and county government. Brad produces the features "Yesterday in La Crosse" and "What's Buried on Brad's Desk."
