Giese will not seek recount of 8-vote loss in La Crosse County Board race
A former La Crosse County board member will not ask for a recount of last week’s board election in District 17.
Mike Giese lost by eight votes, 275-267 to incumbent Jack Pogreba
Giese released a statement saying he will not seek a recount.
Explaining his decision, Giese, a former mayor of Onalaska, said his past experience over 30 years “has proven the accuracy and efficacy of our local elections.”
Giese called it one of the tougher decisions he’s made in a long political career, noting that many people were asking him if he’d request a recount. However, he also said he didn’t want to make the taxpayers pay for a second count.
The 17th district election, for a seat representing the south side of Onalaska, was the closest board race in La Crosse County on April 5.
