A convicted sex offender who has spent nearly a thousand days in the La Crosse County jail is now going to prison for 50 years.

Thirty-nine-year-old David Costin was sentenced Tuesday for repeated sexual assaults of two children.  Costin was arrested in August of 2019, and has been held in the county jail ever since.  He was supposed to go on trial this week, but he reached a plea agreement on two charges earlier this month.

Judge Ramona Gonzalez ordered Costin to serve two consecutive prison terms of 25 years, and has ordered him to have no contact with the victims, or their children.

Costin apologized in a statement at his sentencing. Gonzalez sentenced him to serve two long terms, back to back, so he’ll be in prison long after the two victims have grown up.

Costin has been in the La Crosse jail longer than any other current inmate, and will get credit for the 991 days he’s been behind bars.
