Governor to choose between five candidates for La Crosse judge opening
Five people in La Crosse County have applied to become a circuit judge, to fill the seat which will open in July when Judge Ramona Gonzalez retires after 27 years on the bench.
The governor’s office is not releasing the names of the five candidates who applied by the deadline last Friday. A judicial selection committee will conduct interviews next month, and Governor Evers will make an appointment before Judge Gonzalez leaves office.
The person who becomes judge in Branch One will be eligible to run for election next April.
Gonzalez became the county’s first female judge when she was elected in 1995. She’s one of two women among the five circuit judges in La Crosse County court.
