There’s not much left of a popular La Crosse restaurant, just hours after it was gutted by a kitchen fire.

The La Crosse fire department was called to the India Curry House on 4th Street just after 4 a.m. on Thursday, when smoke was seen coming from the building.

A fire starting in the basement spread quickly to the two upper floors, and the front wall collapsed onto the sidewalk as the roof caved in.  All of the occupants in the upstairs apartments, including several cats, got out of the building safely, and no firefighters were injured.

After the flames were out, bulldozers were brought in to start demolishing what was left.  The fire did not spread to the buildings next door, the River City Gold shop and the Glory Days bar, but apparently there was enough water damage leading to Glory Days being condemned.

The precise cause of the fire hasn’t been determined yet.

Bulldozers? Those both look like excavators to me.
