In La Crosse visit, Gov. Evers praises western Wisconsin as popular tourism destination

School’s almost out, and Memorial Day is just three weeks away. 

Wisconsin is getting ready for the peak tourism season and Gov. Tony Evers said, last week visiting La Crosse, travel-related industries in the state appear to be leading the nation in revenue.

“They are coming back great,” Evers said. “I think we’re No. 1 or 2 in the nation as far as bouncing back from the pandemic in our tourism industry.”

The governor added that tourism brings in about $15 billion to Wisconsin in a typical year.

Evers visited the remodeled La Crosse Center, as part of a statewide trip to promote travel. He also rode the trolley to Grandad Bluff and stopped at The Pearl Ice Cream Parkour, downtown.

Evers complimented the “beauty” of the La Crosse Center and the view it provides of the Mississippi River.

La Crosse County ranked No. 9 among Wisconsin’s best counties for tourism spending in 2019. The governor is optimistic that the area can remain a tourism magnet.

Last fall, Wisconsin tourism spending for September was higher than in the same month of 2019, for the first time since the COVID pandemic was declared in early 2020.
