Gas prices at some stations in La Crosse are about 20 cents higher than the average price of a week ago.

The Gas Buddy website lists local pump prices as high as $4.07 a gallon, while the AAA average posted for La Crosse on Monday was $3.99. The average a month ago was 30 cents lower.

Appleton’s average was a penny lower than in La Crosse, but otherwise, prices are above $4 in most big cities around Wisconsin.

Sources say the May 10 average of $4.37 is a new record high in the U.S.

Wisconsin AAA said a year ago, the average was just under $3, but it’s now $4.11 per gallon, and that’s up almost 20 cents in the past week.

Milwaukee leads the way with gas at $4.23 a gallon on average.
