Damaged fishing pier at Copeland Park is removed, to be replaced soon

A popular fishing spot on La Crosse’s north side is pier-less for now.

A temporary pier at Copeland Park has been removed, because people had broken off safety railings so they could fish on the Black River.

Jim Flottmeyer from the park department says there are other good fishing locations available, including at Pettibone Park, and people can still fish from the shore at Copeland.

The previous Copeland pier had been in use for 20 years. Flottmeyer is still waiting for some parts to be delivered before a new pier can be installed.

Federal money is being used to pay the $60,000 cost of the new fishing pier.
