La Crosse Airport having its best months of the year so far, going into vacation season

As the summer travel season is about to start, the La Crosse Regional Airport just recorded its two best months so far in 2022.

April was the second best month of this year, with 6,077 passengers — down from 6,205 in March.

Before COVID-19, the airport would routinely get 7,000 passengers during April.

The highest monthly totals for airline traffic in La Crosse in a typical year usually happen from May through October, with an average of 8,000 or more travelers a month.

In April of 2019 — pre-pandemic — there were 7,242. The next April saw just 372 travelers a month, as the pandemic grew.

The total so far for 2022 is 24,000 passengers, reached a few weeks ahead of last year’s pace.
