Tomah Police to have heightened presence, conducting “random, unannounced patrols,” of schools, in wake of Texas massacre
In the wake of a Texas elementary school shooting, where at least 19 children were killed by a gunman, the Tomah Police Department has informed the community it would be patrolling schools through the rest of the year.
Tomah Assistant Police Chief Eric Pedersen posted to social media that the community should not be alarmed to see a police officer at the schools, or a squad car parked there.
“We will try to cover as many schools as possible at the beginning and ending of the school day,” Pedersen said. “We will also be conducting random, unannounced patrols of our schools throughout the school day.”
Pedersen added that police also need the community’s help.
“If you see something, say something,” he wrote. “Each one of you are an extra set of eyes on our community. We need each of you actively engaged and taking a proactive role in helping us create a community safety net.
Encourage your children to report threats made by other students or adults. To say “It takes a village” would be a profound understatement.”
