La Crosse man in prison for gun crimes gets 92-month sentence for new offense

A La Crosse man has been sentenced to almost eight years in federal prison for illegally possessing guns.

Joshua Breidel pleaded guilty to the charge in March. He was sentenced Thursday to 92 months behind bars. Breidel is already in prison for previous cases and will serve the new sentence at the same time.

Last August, Breidel allegedly fired a Glock handgun at his girlfriend as she was running away from him.

He had stolen the gun from the girlfriend, and reportedly had threatened to kill her and her children.

The next day, La Crosse police arrested Breidel in his mother’s van. He was wearing body armor, and he had the handgun and bullets with him.

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area. He regularly covers local courts and city and county government. Brad produces the features "Yesterday in La Crosse" and "What's Buried on Brad's Desk."
