The murder of a 15-year-old Logan High School student now has a suspect in custody.

Hicke

La Crosse Police released an update at 9 p.m. saying 18-year-old Sage Hicke had turned himself in around 4 p.m. Friday. He’s in La Crosse County jail for 1st degree homicide. No bond has been set.

Police added that a 17-year-old boy — whose name is being withheld because he’s a minor — was arrested and booked into jail back on May 23, the day after Logan student Storm Vondrashek was shot and killed near 1900 South 7th Street.

Police also released what they have pieced together of the May 22 shooting, that led to Vondrashek being declared dead from multiple gunshot wounds, lying on his back in a driveway at 1:43 a.m., and the other 17-year-old being shot.

Apparently, two groups were arguing on the phone and ended up meeting up outside the apartments on 7th Street, where Hicke was inside.

Vondrashek and the other boy pulled up in a vehicle, exited and waited. Hicke came out of an apartment and the three got into an “altercation.”

Hicke shot Vondrashek first, then the other boy.

Police got the call at 1:24 a.m. and found Vondrashek lying in the driveway but first-responders couldn’t bring him back. News at the time was the other boy was recovering in the hospital.

Police did find what’s described as a “firearm” at the scene — as opposed to a gun — but it isn’t believed to be the one Hicke used. It was, apparently, either Vondrashek’s or the other boy’s firearm. They also found multiple shell casings.

The 17-year-old was booked into jail the next day, charged with endangering safety by use of a dangerous weapon, disorderly conduct while armed and possession of a weapon by a person under 18.

Police added that the charges for both Hicke and the 17-year-old are “merely accusations,” and presumed innocent until proven guilty.
