Geothermal and solar energy are part of La Crosse County’s nursing home plans

La Crosse County is making plans to install more clean energy systems at several of its facilities.

The county board could be asked this month to spend $1.5 million in American Rescue Plan Act money to place solar and geothermal systems at the courthouse, the administrative center, the health building and the Hillview and Lakeview care centers.

About $600,000 would go toward installing a heat system at a new 48-bed residential building at Hillview. The original construction budget for the Hillview project did not include money for solar and geothermal energy.

The county is trying to achieve a goal of 100% renewable energy by the year 2050. The county executive committee could vote on the funding plan at a Wednesday meeting.

La Crosse County has to find ways to spend almost $23 million in ARPA funding by the end of 2026.
