La Crosse ranks again in top 10 Wisconsin counties for tourism revenue

It looks like La Crosse County is again a top-10 tourist destination in Wisconsin, according to a new statewide study. 

The report commissioned for the Wisconsin Department of Tourism shows that travel-related spending in La Crosse County last year was $433 million, a 23 per cent increase over the total for 2020. 

That would rank La Crosse at number 10 among Wisconsin counties making money from tourism.  La Crosse ranked 9th during 2019, before the start of the pandemic.

Every county in Wisconsin saw an increase in tourism spending last year, compared to the downturn that occurred during the pandemic in 2020.

According to a study done for the state tourism department, overall tourist spending in the Badger State rose 31 per cent during 2021. The biggest increase was seen in the Dells area.

Monroe County saw a 27 per cent increase, rising to $146 million in tourism dollars. Jackson and Crawford Counties also had increases of more than 20 per cent.
