West Salem teen dies in jet ski accident

Almost no information from authorities, but a letter to parents in the West Salem School District notified them that a student has died in a jet ski accident.

La Crosse Police told WIZM it was in the DNR’s jurisdiction and had no information. The only information from the DNR came from recreation warden, Kirk Konichek.

“The DNR is investigating a boating fatality incident that occurred (at 1:29 p.m. Tuesday) on the West Channel of the Mississippi River,” Konichek said. “The incident involved two personal watercrafts and four individuals — two on each watercrafts. One of the four is deceased. There are no other details available as the investigation is underway.”

The letter said the girl had just finished freshman year at West Salem and was on the soccer and cross country teams.
