A La Crosse man, who spent 20 years in prison for reckless homicide, is facing new charges for incidents in the last two months.

Molzahn

Andrew Molzahn is accused of attempting to flee police back in April, and with possessing cocaine and meth during an arrest this week.

The La Crosse County District Attorney’s office said the 42-year-old Molzahn was involved in a chase and high-speed crash in the area of West Avenue in late April.

Then this week, Molzahn was arrested on drug charges, while riding in a car in the Onalaska area. He was given a $1,000 cash bond.

When Molzahn was 17, in May of 1999, he was charged with reckless homicide for the death of Richard Martin, after causing head injuries by hitting Martin with two 40-ounce bottles of beer inside a Holmen convenience store.

Molzahn was convicted and sentenced to 38 years in prison, but he was paroled in 2020 after serving 20 years.

Andy did his time like a man the news fails to tell how the man he killed was in that gas station bullying the store clerk and when and spoke up the bully came at Andy and Andy defended himself they offered Andy a plea bargain for 5 years and a reduced charge Andy didn’t take it because Andy thought in America you had a right to defend yourself from thugs and found out the hard way that only applies to the corrupt cops and the rich

Self defense? So was Rich charging at Andrew backwards? If I recall, Rich was hit in the back of the head with the bottle. How is that self defense? He belongs in prison because he can’t be a productive member of society. He will keep getting out and keep going back.

Andy was pure trouble when we were kids, he was a thug and gang banger back then. I’m sure he wears the murder conviction as a badge of honor. Back then Andy behaved as if it was cool to be a criminal.

To those who would defend Andy:
I was there with Andy, his brother Brian and 6 other people when he cowardly murdered Richard. I had seen Andy hit people with bottles in the past without discrimination or hesitation. He belongs behind bars. He destroyed the lives of many people that night. I think of that day often, every time I’m at a gas station I think of how I stepped over his lifeless body, how I was part of the problem, of how I could have changed the outcome. I still expect vengeance to show up on my doorstep to this day
25 years of shame.. I can only say it was a senseless killing, the act of a cruel bully who was childish ignorant, a punk thug that doesn’t care about consequences. Our streets are a little safer with him in prison.
