PDC, New Albin marking 150th birthdays

One area town has a special birthday celebration set for this Thursday. 

Prairie du Chien is marking July 14th as the anniversary of 150 years chartered as a city. 

Although the sesquicentennial in Prairie is being observed all year, several events are planned specifically for July 14th. 

Businesses will have open houses, and there will be a 5K run walk and a medallion hunt.  A fireworks show is also planned in the evening, and Pete’s Hamburger Stand in Prairie, which is normally closed on Thursdays, will be open late in the day.

New Albin, Iowa, just south of the Minnesota border, also has a 150th birthday observance set for this weekend.

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area. He regularly covers local courts and city and county government. Brad produces the features "Yesterday in La Crosse" and "What's Buried on Brad's Desk." He also writes the website "Triviazoids," which finds odd connections between events that happen on a certain date, and he writes and performs with the local comedy group Heart of La Crosse. Brad been featured on several national TV programs because of his memory skills.
