La Crosse taking applications for District 5 city council vacancy through Aug. 19

La Crosse will fill the city council vacancy for District 5 that came after the resignation of Justice Weaver two weeks ago.

The council is accepting applications now. A candidate will be appointed by the city council Sept. 8. That term runs through April 18, 2023.

Anyone appointed to fill the vacancy in the district must be a qualified elector of the district at the time of the appointment.

Interested potential candidates should send a letter of application stating their desire and qualifications to the City Clerk’s Office (400 La Crosse Street, La Crosse, Wisconsin 54601).

Applications will be accepted until 5 p.m. Aug. 19.

This notice is pursuant to Wisconsin State Statutes, sec. 17.23, and at the direction of City Council President Barb Janssen pursuant to Municipal Code sec. 2-106.

Weaver cited health concerns as the reasoning for his resignation.

Weaver was serving on three council committees: the Judiciary & Administration Committee, the Municipal Transit Utility Board and the Room Tax Commission.
