Irishfest ready to bring out the green in La Crosse in early August

The next big annual festival on the calendar in La Crosse is just two weeks away.

Irishfest opens on August 12th, for its 17th year. The event at the southside festgrounds will last three days, preceded by a Thursday night Moon Tunes concert at Riverside Park devoted to Irish music.

Besides entertainment, Irishfest will also feature cultural attractions, and this year, one new event will be a tug-of-war competition.

The Irish music will include performers on the harp, and the banjo. We Banjo 3 and Boxing Banjo are among the musicians, along with the Harp Twins and Irishfest favorites Gaelic Storm.

The gates to the festgrounds will open Friday, August 12th at 4 p.m., and then 11 a.m. that Saturday and Sunday.

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area. He regularly covers local courts and city and county government. Brad produces the features "Yesterday in La Crosse" and "What's Buried on Brad's Desk." He also writes the website "Triviazoids," which finds odd connections between events that happen on a certain date, and he writes and performs with the local comedy group Heart of La Crosse. Brad been featured on several national TV programs because of his memory skills.
