Kou Lee joined La Crosse Talk PM on Thursday to discuss his run for US Senate in Wisconsin, but, more importantly, his family’s run in coming to the U.S.

Lee tells the story of his family fleeing to Laos, then coming to the U.S. and how he ended up in Wisconsin. I also gave him a few minutes to speak directly to the Hmong community (22:40 into podcast).

In between that, we got into a conversation about Lee playing volleyball for Michigan Stateand why Hmong always seem to end up playing that sport of all sport — plus how his volleyball days relates to his candidacy.

Lee is one of five Democratic candidates running for US Senate in Wisconsin. The voting primary ends Tuesday, Aug. 9.
