Closer look at painted ads uncovered during WAFER reconstruction in La Crosse

As part of a reconstruction of the old Piggly Wiggly on the corner of George and Gillette streets in La Crosse, some advertising artwork from the 1940s or 50s was uncovered.

The building, also known as Birnbaum’s in the past, is being renovated by the WAFER Food Pantry. Executive director Erin Waldhart told WIZM Thursday those walls have to be renovated.

    Birnbaum’s was a grocery store not a pawn shop.
