A fundraising campaign for the Great Rivers United Way gets started Thursday in La Crosse.

Tom Conrad starts the show right when gates open at 5 p.m. at Copeland Park and Events Center (map), followed by TUGG at 6 p.m. and The Remainders at 7:30 p.m.

Conrad’s talent isn’t the only reason to get there early.

The first 250 guests through the main gate starting at 5 p.m. get a swag bag of gifts from Great Rivers United Way and event sponsors. The first 100 to arrive wearing a LIVE UNITED t-shirt will receive a ticket for one free drink, including beer and non-alcoholic beverages, but excludes hard liquor.

Not only is the concert is free to attend, there will also be raffles and other ways to support GRUW.

Raffle prizes include La Crosse Loggers baseball season tickets, more tickets to Saturday night’s Stone Temple Pilots concert at Logger Field, a VIP Oktoberfest package and more from local sponsors.

The Great Rivers United Way works to advance the common good and create opportunities for a better life for everyone in its seven-county service region: Buffalo, Crawford, La Crosse, Monroe, Trempealeau and Vernon, along with Houston County in Minnesota.

Great Rivers United Way focuses these building blocks:

  • EDUCATION – helping children and youth achieve their potential
  • FINANCIAL STABILITY – promoting financial stability and independence
  • HEALTH – improving people’s health
  • COMMUNITY BASICS – providing access to basic needs like food, shelter, and safety

According to the GRUW website, “Advancing the common good is less about helping one person at a time and more about changing systems to help all of us. We are all connected and interdependent. We all win when a child succeeds in school, when families are financially stable, when people are healthy. United Way’s goal is to create long-lasting changes in the Coulee Region by addressing the underlying causes of these problems. Living united means being a part of the change. It takes everyone in our community working together to create a brighter future.”
