The latest idea for campaign debates in the 3rd District House race is to have town-hall meetings between Brad Pfaff and Derrick Van Orden.

Democrat Pfaff is suggesting three town-hall sessions, with questions being posed by audience members. Last week, Pfaff challenged Republican Van Orden to three debates around the 3rd District.

Van Orden said he would only agree to a town-hall format, where college professors and reporters would not be asking the questions. Those debates were proposed for La Crosse, Eau Claire, and Stevens Point.

On Tuesday, Van Orden responded in social media that he is “more than happy to negotiate in good faith with media partners.”

He again described Pfaff’s campaign as “floundering,” and called the Democrat “desperate for attention.”
