21 years after her birth at Winona Health, Miss Winona, Mikaela Mohr, is excited to organize the Think Pink Winona community fundraiser. (Hear more about her connection in the audio above.)

Mohr is inviting the community to run, walk, shake, and roll their way around the “Big Lake” of Lake Winona this Saturday, October 8, to support The Winona Health Foundation Breast Cancer Fund.

Get “pinked out” during this untimed color fun run/walk for their 2nd annual event. 100% of the proceeds are donated to the Winona Health Foundation benefiting breast cancer patients and survivors, right here in our community.

Mohr told Z93 the fund pays for things that are challenging for those fighting breast cancer. like wigs, gas and grocery gift cards.

Mohr has a very personal connection to the cause. Her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer at Winona Health when Mikaela was in 5th grade, and is now a two-time breast cancer survivor. Mohr added that her mother’s scans came back clean this year.

Mohr’s platform as Miss Winona, in the Miss America Organization, is “More than a diagnosis.” Mohr explained, it “talks about how cancer affects more than just the person diagnosed but everyone. So I get to talk about being the daughter of a cancer survivor and what our journey looked like together and how to get through that, because you can best support the person you love when you support yourself, too.”

Registration begins at 9 at Unity Park, on the west end of the Winona Health Campus, next the the “big lake.”

The Run/Walk isn’t the only fun to be had on Saturday. Mohr said there will be Caribou coffee, cotton candy, 3 bounce houses, face painting, hair chalk, and more. Mohr also added she heard a rumor that a sponsor would be bringing doughnuts from Bloedows…

All of the Winona Mascots will be there to do a Relay race and the Little Warriors drumline will perform, among other groups and entertainment. The Firefly Sisterhood will also be available to share survivorship resources.

There will be 10 splash zones with color along the route. The color is a corn starch that comes out with water, but if participants do not want to be splashed, that’s an option, too.
