As I See It
Vote confidently knowing our elections are safe and secure
Much has been made of election security in the past two years. Politicians have written laws making it more difficult to vote, while those overseeing elections in Wisconsin have been demeaned and local clerks impugned over false claims that our elections are not secure. We heard about supposed ballots in the back of a truck or that voting machines were somehow manipulated from afar. The fact is our elections are safe and secure. In the 2020 election, only 24 people in Wisconsin were charged with election fraud, most of them by felons not eligible to vote who cast a ballot mistakenly. There are many steps in place to ensure our elections are secure. Voters must first register. They must show a photo ID at the polls. Those who vote absentee must upload a photo ID and their completing of the ballot needs to be witnessed by another person, who must sign and attest to that. Once the election is complete, the voting equipment is double-checked and election workers hand count paper ballots. Any allegations of fraud are investigated and could lead to prosecution. Still, voter fraud remains exceedingly rare and is more typically a mistake than an attempt to be malicious. It has not influenced the outcome of the elections. So when you cast your ballot on November 8th, you can do so knowing our system of voting is safe and secure.
