Onalaska 17-year-old to be tried for knife attack on 15-year-old girl in her bedroom

A 17-year-old from Onalaska pleaded not guilty to a charge of attempting to kill a 15-year-old girl.

Austin Bailey will be scheduled for trial in La Crosse County, following his arraignment Tuesday.

Bailey is accused of stabbing the girl repeatedly and choking her while she was sleeping at her home in early September.

The victim woke up and fought Bailey, who ran from the mobile home and was caught by police near Onalaska Middle School.

Bailey remains jailed in La Crosse, with a cash bond set at $50,000.

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area. He regularly covers local courts and city and county government. Brad produces the features "Yesterday in La Crosse" and "What's Buried on Brad's Desk." He also writes the website "Triviazoids," which finds odd connections between events that happen on a certain date, and he writes and performs with the local comedy group Heart of La Crosse.     At 17 Bailey is a child. Parading this child about in the public square is CHILD ABUSE.
