La Crosse’s Jordan Davis starts, goes for 6 points, 6 rebounds in Badgers opener

La Crosse native Jordan Davis had six points and six rebounds, starting at guard Monday for in the University of Wisconsin men’s basketball opener.

The Badgers beat South Dakota 85-59 at the Kohl Center, led by 19 points, 10 rebounds from Tyler Wahl.

Davis was 3-for-8 from the field, including 0 of 2 from deep.

All four other starters were in double figures for Wisconsin (1-0), which led 38-28 at halftime and outscored the Coyotes (0-1) by 16 in the second half.

The Badgers shot 50.9 percent from the field, including 12-for-26 from beyond the arc. South Dakota shot just 40.4 percent from the field, going 2 of 15 from deep.

Next up, Wisconsin plays Stanford at the Milwaukee Brewers stadium at 6:30 p.m. Friday.
