Single-digit temps likely by end of the week in Coulee Region

Be prepared for the coldest weather so far this season, along with the chance of more snow in the region the rest of this week.

The National Weather Service in the Twin Cities predicts 1-3 total inches of snow for La Crosse through Wednesday afternoon, with higher amounts to the north and west. Minneapolis, Mankato and Eau Claire are expecting 2 to 3 inches of snow through Thursday.

In recent years, alternate-side parking for winter in La Crosse often began on Nov. 15 and continued until March 15. New rules have been passed in the city, calling for odd-even parking only when a snow emergency is declared.

By the weekend, overnight lows could be in the single digits at many locations, with temps below 20 degrees for most of Friday and Saturday. Highs may still be at 30 or above through Thursday, but overnight lows for the weekend will be dropping close to zero.

During this week last year, La Crosse had highs in the 40s and 50s. The mercury didn’t drop into the single digits until the first week of December.
