Neumeister announces for La Crosse school board race, where four people will be elected in April

Four seats are at stake in the spring election for the La Crosse school board.

A member of the La Crosse city council has launched his campaign for one of those positions. Scott Neumeister represents a north side neighborhood at City Hall, so he’s familiar with the talk of merging Logan and Central high schools.

“I have to do what I feel is best for the north side and the kids,” Neumeister said on a Facebook post announcing his run. “I will fight for Logan High School.”

The November referendum to combine the two public high schools into one south side building was defeated by more than a 2-1 margin.

Neumeister has not made a declaration about running for his council seat in April.

La Crosse school board candidates can attend a meeting Wednesday night to learn more about the spring election. Anyone planning to go to the meeting or watch it online is asked to RSVP to the superintendent’s office, by email here.

The meeting for prospective candidates begins at 5 p.m., at the Hogan Administrative Center. The session also will be streamed over Google Meet. Four seats will be on the spring ballot, mostly for 3-year terms, but one of the openings will be for just one year.

At least two new board members are likely to be elected, since Laurie Cooper Stoll and Shaundel Spivey have announced they will not run for new terms in 2023.
