Interim La Crosse County administrator makes final 3 for full-time post

La Crosse County’s interim administrator is one of three finalists to get the job full-time.

Jane Klekamp has been chosen for final interviews to succeed Steve O’Malley as county administrator, along with Larry Bierke and Scott Feldt.

A county committee will conduct the interviews Wednesday, with a possible vote by the county board the following night. About 70 people applied to succeed retired administrator Steve O’Malley, who held the position for 19 years. He was the county’s first and only administrator.

Klekamp has worked for La Crosse County for about three decades, formerly in the justice sanctions program.

Bierke is the administrator for Iowa County, in the Dodgeville area, while Feldt serves as administrator for Kewaunee County, along Lake Michigan.

Both men have been at their current jobs since 2015, which was the same year Klekamp became La Crosse County’s associate administrator.

Klekamp and Bierke both earned their bachelors’ degrees at UW-La Crosse.

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area. He regularly covers local courts and city and county government. Brad produces the features "Yesterday in La Crosse" and "What's Buried on Brad's Desk." He also writes the website "Triviazoids," which finds odd connections between events that happen on a certain date, and he writes and performs with the local comedy group Heart of La Crosse. Brad been featured on several national TV programs because of his memory skills.
