As I See It
Follow the parking rules or they may change again
Here we go again. Let’s try to get it right this time. The city of La Crosse has issued its third snow emergency of the season due to the inclement weather. And so far, the new system of making room for snowplows hasn’t exactly caught on. Under the plan adopted earlier this year, La Crosse no longer requires drivers to move their cars to the other side of the street every day between mid-November and mid-March. Instead, we only have to move our cars to the side of the street corresponding with the date when the city declares a snow emergency. That is a better plan than making people move their cars when there is zero chance of snow, but we’re told people haven’t been very good about following the new rules. In the first snow emergency the city declared, La Crosse police issued warnings to hundreds of cars that were still parked on the wrong side of the street. Maybe people don’t understand the new rules, or forgot about them. A good way to stay informed, other than listening to this radio station, is to follow the city of La Crosse on social media or download their app. All of the rules are explained there, as well as on the city’s website. If people don’t do a better job adhering to the new policy, City Hall is likely to revert to the old system. So stay informed, and follow the rules, or we may have to go back to moving our cars every night for four months of the year.
