Backers of Olson Senior Center urge La Crosse city committee to sell building to the center for $1

La Crosse’s city council has a big vote ahead next week, on the future of a popular senior activity center.

The council’s finance committee voted Thursday night to refer an offer to sell the center headquarters to the full council, without a specific direction.

The council is being asked to sell the building to the senior center board for a dollar.  At least one council member recalled an actual vote in 2016 to sell the Olson Center.

Several citizens spoke in favor of keeping the center operating in that building. Members of the center’s board and other citizens touted the positive impact that the institution has on senior residents of the area.

The city has made attempts to evict the Olson Center from its building, because the lease expired in 2020.  The full council meets on January 12th.
