New fieldhouse at UWL open to some athletes; officially opens in late January

The newest building on the UW-La Crosse campus will be open in a couple of weeks.

The university’s $42-million fieldhouse will officially open Jan. 23, the start of the spring semester.

The building, however, is already being used by members of the track and field teams.

Indoor track events will be the main attraction inside the field house, which has been under construction since the summer of 2020.

The 144,000-square-foot facility is designed to provide new space for growing athletic programs at UW-L, and to ease congestion at Mitchell Hall, which was built in the 1960s.

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area. He regularly covers local courts and city and county government. Brad produces the features "Yesterday in La Crosse" and "What's Buried on Brad's Desk." He also writes the website "Triviazoids," which finds odd connections between events that happen on a certain date, and he writes and performs with the local comedy group Heart of La Crosse. Brad been featured on several national TV programs because of his memory skills.
