Former La Crosse doctor headed to summer trial for child sexual assault

A trial is scheduled in La Crosse this summer for an area doctor charged with sexually assaulting children under the age of 13. 

Dr. Joseph Poterucha will be tried in July on three sexual assault charges.  The charges against the Mayo system physician were filed late in 2021, after multiple accusers came forward.

Poterucha was based at Mayo in La Crosse at the time.  He now lives in Rochester.

The trial is scheduled to start on Thursday, July 13th, and could carry over into the following week. 

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area. He regularly covers local courts and city and county government. Brad produces the features "Yesterday in La Crosse" and "What's Buried on Brad's Desk." He also writes the website "Triviazoids," which finds odd connections between events that happen on a certain date, and he writes and performs with the local comedy group Heart of La Crosse. Brad been featured on several national TV programs because of his memory skills.
